Gem Theatre
Salt Lake City, Utah

The Liberty Theatre, later known as the Gem, opened 1 February 1911 at a cost of $20,000.  The “photo-playhouse” was to be “one of the most modern motion picture houses in the west,” including “many new features which have not before been incorporated in plans for a motion picture house.”  Private loges allowed patrons to enjoy “the exclusiveness and comforts of the opera box.”

The Airport Drive-In was located on the south side of North Temple, across the street from the Salt Lake International Airport.  The theater was at 2711 West North Temple Street, which, according to MapQuest.com, is within an area which was annexed into the airport.  The street was redirected around the edge of the annexed property, apparently so lights leading to the runway could be installed.

This geological survey map from 1975 does not show the Airport Drive-In.  At the time North Temple Street still continued in a straight line at the end of the runway.
