BYU's movie theater closes after 37 years

The Varsity Theater will be closed when the fall semester begins on 8 September 2001, after being in operation for 37 years.  It will now be used as a lecture hall and for concerts and talent and comedy shows.   The theater was required by BYU to cover its costs to remain in operation.  Ticket sales plummeted after the Varsity stopped showing edited movies.
