Gaslight Theatre Opens Friday

Daily Herald, 23 May 1976, page 43

On Friday evening, the new Gaslight Dinner theatre, 826 S. Main, Salt Lake City, will open its doors to present its premiere production "Cactus Flower," starring Gale Storm.

The Gaslight Dinner Theatre will be the only year-round Star - System Dinner Theater in the Intermountain area. Theatre managers are working in cooperation with Actor's Equity Association and will present a recognized star to head the cast of each production. "Cactus Flower" will run from Friday through July 17 in a limited seven week engagement.

The new theatre seats 440 patrons. Adam L Curtis, publicity and public relations director, commented that all seats have excellent sightlines to the stage and that there are no balconies or seats with obstructed views.

The gourmet buffet is prepared by Master Chef Georges Norton (formerly of the Fountainbleu in Florida) and the menu for the run of "Cactus Flower" features Steamship Round, Moussake, Chicken Veronique and Crab Casserole a la Franciase. There will also be an international salad bar with a choice of salads from around the world.

Mary Chase, general manager of the Gaslight, pointed out that Dinner Theatre is a compromise between art and economics. Theatre in America has been forced to decentralize by rising costs. Where once quality, professional productions could wait in large metropolitan areas expecting the market to come to the theatre, today theatre has learned it has to go after its market.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be from 7 to 8 p.m. and showtime is 8:30 p.m. "Cactus Flower runs nightly except Sundays with Wednesday and Saturday luncheon buffet matinees. Reservations are suggested. For further information, contact Gaslight Dinner Theatre.
