Good News! The GEM Theatre will soon be seeing major renovations. Don and Joanna MacDonald, owners of Moochie's Meatballs and More in Salt Lake City, have purchased the theatre and will be bringing a Moochie's to Magna! Moochie's is famous for authentic Philly Cheesesteaks and handmade Italian food. (For more info, visit www.MoochiesMeatballs.com) We intend to restore the original GEM sign on the outside of the building.

As a kid I often attended the Saturday Matinee. I will always remember the floor of the house being sticky from the theater candy. I remember seeing everything from 'Bambi' to 'Rambo' there.
I worked at the Gem during the summer of my 16th year (c. 1975) as a projectionist in training until the theatre was sublet to a group claiming they wanted to run "Wildlife Films." Wildlife films indeed.
The Gem was never a luxury palace, but there are lots of fond memories from my childhood.
