Cinemark USA announced plans in 1999 to build a new 15-screen multiplex at Crossroads Plaza. The 3,000-seat theater would have included Utah's first IMAX screen. Construction was to begin in spring, with a Christmas 2000 opening. Plans stalled and the cinema was never built. Demolition of Crossroads Plaza began in 2007 and the mall was replaced by City Creek Center.
The Carillon Theatres were built in 1976 or 1977 by Mann Theatres as part of a national expansion program.1 The theater closed after Carmike Cinemas entered bankruptcy in 2000. The building was demolished in 2004.
