Frontier Theatre
Blanding, Utah

Floyd Nielson and Sons opened the Frontier Theatre on the night of the San Juan High School junior prom in March 1958. A few years after closing in 1974, snow and ice caved in the roof. In 1986, the Blanding City Council considered the “unsightly and unsafe structure” to be “a health hazard, area for public nuisance and deterrent to the City and County beautification.” After catching fire in July 1992, the owners began dismantling the building.

The St. George Cinema 6 Theatres opened in 1984.[1]

In 2004, Westates Theatres spend $500,000 remodeling the Cinema 6 with stadium seating, digital sound, and new projectors. The theater remained open during the renovation, which began after Labor Day and was scheduled to be completed in mid-November 2004. The project was necessary because of low attendance at the theater following the popularity of the new Sunset Corner Stadium 8.

“The people are crying out for stadium seating,” said Lois Blackburn, area manager for Westates. “It's very popular."[2]
