Gem Theatre
Salt Lake City, Utah
The Liberty Theatre, later known as the Gem, opened 1 February 1911 at a cost of $20,000. The “photo-playhouse” was to be “one of the most modern motion picture houses in the west,” including “many new features which have not before been incorporated in plans for a motion picture house.” Private loges allowed patrons to enjoy “the exclusiveness and comforts of the opera box.”

The Amity Drive-In Theatre opened before 19631 and was located south of Ephraim, at about 810 South Main Street. By 1970 the theater had been renamed the Chapparal Drive-In Theatre.2 The theater was owned at one point by Wilford Steiman. In 2005 all that was left of the drive-in was a short brick wall and a sign along the edge of the highway.
