About is dedicated to preserving the memories of theaters in Utah by providing photos and written histories of all buildings that have been used as public stage or movie theaters from the early 1900s to the present day.  Some amusement, dance, and meeting halls have been included because of the possibility that the were also used for theatrical purposes. began as an extension of, which was created by Grant Smith in 2001 as a way to practice skills learned in a web design course.  To help emphasis the importance of the Villa Theatre, a page was added to with photos of other historic Salt Lake theaters.  As the web site grew, it was necessary to split the information on other theaters off into a separate site which later became
