New Avalon Theatre Opened to Public
Millard County Progress, 3 September 1926, page 1
Tuesday evening the new Avalon theatre was opened to the public, the first performance being the Fashion Show presented by James A. Kelly and Son. All the rumors have been current for some time hinting at the beauties of the interior, the public was both surprised and delighted with the architecture, size, decoration, etc., of this handsome play house. Mr. M. W. Peterson, owner of the building, who drew the plans and supervised the construction of the same, is the recipient of a great deal of praise from every one who has viewed the building. A two story structure, the front of imported brick, it is a creditable addition to main street. On the second floor there are two large suites of office rooms, and on the main floor on either side of the lobby is a large room suitable for office or store. The auditorium, which has a seating capacity of over 600, has a sloping floor so that every seat from the front to the back row is a good one. The walls are attractively decorated, and the large stage is furnished with a draw curtain of a pleasing design. The building will be steam heated, and is equipped with an improved ventilating system. Leather cushioned seats will make the movie or theatre even more enjoyable. Mr. Peterson has speared no expense to make the Avalon one of the finest motion picture theatres in this part of the state, and is deserving of the support and patronage of the people in this vicinity.
