Cinemark USA announced plans in 1999 to build a new 15-screen multiplex at Crossroads Plaza. The 3,000-seat theater would have included Utah's first IMAX screen. Construction was to begin in spring, with a Christmas 2000 opening. Plans stalled and the cinema was never built. Demolition of Crossroads Plaza began in 2007 and the mall was replaced by City Creek Center.
This morning, an incipient blaze in a vacant building of the Elberta theatre, called out the fire department which had little difficulty in putting out the fire.
