Utahna Manager under Arrest
Sunday Amusement Ordinance Will Probably Be Put to Test
Ogden Standard Examiner, 5 December 1904, page 7
Manager W. R. Gourley of the Utahna company was arrested at 9:45 last evening at the Utahna theater building by Chief Browning for violating the Sunday amusement ordinance. The arrest was the outcome of the opening of the Utahna theater last evening as advertised. A sacred concert was advertised to come off last evening and the burning of the electric lights in front of the building heralded the fact that the show would be given. A much smaller audience than usually gathers at Utahna assembled and Chief Browning and Captain Brown were on hand to make the necessary arrests. According to information from police headquarters, the show was not a sacred concert.
Manager Gourley promised to appear at the Municipal court Tuesday morning, December 6th, and was allowed to go on his on recognizance.
Mr. Gourley is manager of all the Utahna company's theaters in the State and has his headquarters in Salt Lake City.
