Kearns To Have First Theater

Deseret News, 10 January 1964, page 8A
Groundbreaking will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. for the Plaza Theater to be built at Kearns.

The 950-seat structure will be located at 4100 West and 5415 South Street.

It is being built by a partnership consisting of Gene Bowles, who has been associated with theaters, drive-ins and theater distributing companies for many years; Fred Demman, a motel operator in the southern part of Salt Lake Valley; Joe Santi, Price theaterman; Reed Dais, Kearns real estate operator, and Jim Payne, contractor, and Max Waddoups, electrical contractor.

Mr. Bowles said that the theater would be constructed with three booths so that it will be possible to show Cinerama if the demand demonstrates that such an operation would be profitable.

Subsequent-run pictures will be shown as the regular policy, Mr. Bowles said.
