Classical Guitarist to Perform for Casino Star
Casino Star Theatre, 29 March 2008
Michael Lucarelli, noted classical guitarist from Salt Lake City, will perform an evening of music at Gunnison Valley High School on Wednesday, April 9, at 7:00 p.m. This concert is sponsored by the Casino Star Theatre Foundation, with support from the Utah Arts Council Performing Arts Tour, and is the final event in the 2007-2008 concert season. Casino Star directors expect to return the series to the historic theatre for the next concert season, beginning in September.
Lucarelli, originally from Cincinnati, began his musical education on the electric guitar after hearing the group Led Zepplin, but switched to classical guitar early in his performing career. He maintains a busy schedule of recording, teaching, and composing for the classical guitar and performs extensively for weddings, receptions, concerts, festivals, and private events throughout Utah and the U.S.
His Utah performances include appearances at Capitol Theatre, Temple Square Concert Series, Utah State University, BYU, Dixie College, Snow College, and Westminster College. He also performs regularly at the Utah Arts Festival, Helper Arts festival, Brown Bag Concert series, and First Night. During the 2002 Winter Olympics, Lucarelli performed for the Athletes at the Olympic Village, and he has appeared on several radio and television programs including the TV series "Touched by an Angel." He has also recorded six CD's, which will be available at the concert.
MIchael expressed disappointment that the Casino Star Theatre is closed, as he has been looking forward to playing in that historic, acoustically outstanding space. He is pleased, however, to be able to contribute to the restoration effort by playing at the high school, knowing that all proceeds go toward the restoration effort.
Suggested donations for Michael's concert are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for seniors and students. Tickets are available at the Sanpete Messenger office in Manti and Rasmussen's Ace Hardware in Gunnison. Tickets will also be available at the door. Please not that this performance is on Wednesday evening, April 9.
