More Great News from the Casino Star Theatre

The Casino Star Theatre in Gunnison springs forward with exciting developments in both its programming and historic restoration efforts.  A special 4-hour workshop on Principles of Freedom, a crash course in understanding the U.S. Constitution, will be presented on Saturday, May 22, by Gary and Carolyn Alder of Salt Lake City, developers of an in-depth course called “In Search of the American Constitutional Paradigm.”  This program will be absolutely free to the public, though donations are always welcome.

On the restoration front, before the end of April, scaffolding will rise on Main Street to give access to the crumbling stucco, rusted metal, and missing rosettes and decorative trim on the 98-year-old face of the Casino Star Theatre.  Before the scaffolding comes down, Gunnison’s historic showhouse—“your hometown national treasure”—will look more beautiful than any living person has ever seen.

During the facelift, the Casino Star will remain open for the regular movie schedule and upcoming live programs.  Passageways under the scaffolds will lead to the theatre doors, the Gunnison Barbershop, and the dance and martial arts studio above His ‘n Hers.  Frequent visits to neighboring businesses near First South and Main will let you watch the work in progress.

Funding for this long-awaited upgrade come from the Utah Heritage Foundation, the Mormon Pioneer National Heritage Area, the Utah Division of State History’s Certified Local Government program, patrons who attend Casino Star events, private donors, and friends of the theatre.
