Shakespeare in Gunnison: Learn to Tame Your Shrew

Casino Star Theatre, 8 April 2010

The Casino Star Theatre Foundation will present the Utah Shakespearean Festival's touring production of The Taming of the Shrew at Gunnison High School on Wednesday, April 21, at 7:00 p.m.  This is the only public performance of this production between Alpine and Moab or Cedar City.

This delightful production, set in the Wild West, translates Shakespeare's battle of the sexes from renaissance Italy to the 19th century American West—Petruchio sporting his six-guns and Kate flaunting her shotgun.  The touring production is reduced to 90 minutes, brief enough to be enjoyable to even the most reluctant theatre-goer.

The sponsor for this local presentation is the Casino Star Theatre Foundation, which is restoring the unique 1912 theatre in Gunnison.   However, in order to serve as wide and audience as possible, the event will be at the Gunnison High School auditorium.  All proceeds will go towards restoration of the façade, which is scheduled to start within the next month.

The Utah Shakespearean Festival is Utah's Tony Award-Winning Regional Theatre in Cedar City, which specializes in the works of William Shakespeare.   Each spring, the Festival hires a troupe of ten professional actors to act as both performers and stage-crew for a touring production on one of Shakespeare's most popular plays.

The ticket price is $10 for adults and $7 for students/seniors.  Tickets are available at Rasmussen's Ace Hardware in Gunnison, the Sanpete Messenger Office in Manti, and KopyKat Printing in Ephraim, or from Diana Spencer at 435-979-2798 and Lori Nay at 435-979-9235.
