New theater opens 'Toyland' Friday

Salt Lake Tribune, 22 December 1974, page 8E

WEST JORDAN - A new theater, The Green-Briar, 8261 S. Redwood Rd., will open to the public Friday at 6:30 p.m. with the musical, "Babes in Toyland."

The theater is owned and operated by John F. and LaRue Morrison Green and will feature family entertainment.

Two Houses

In addition to containing a 300-seat live theater, The GreenBriar also includes a 350-seat movie theater. The two houses are joined by a central lobby.

Mrs. Green said the opening of the theater is the realization of a life-long ambition.

"We've always been interested in owning a theater and we've been making plans for this one for five years.

"My husband and I decided to make ours a little different and have one theater for movies and one for live productions."

Mrs. Green said the West Jordan location was chosen after looking all over Salt Lake and then deciding West Jordan would be appropriate because no theaters are in that area and "It is the fastest growing area in the Salt Lake valley."

'Babes' Director

"Babes in Toyland" will be directed by Winnie Erickson and will include in the cast Diana Malrose, Kathy Bond, Ron Schnieder, Fred Cox, Von Fox, Ernie Doose and John Green.

An 8:30 p.m. performance will also be presented Friday and shows will then continue through Jan. 4, except for Dec. 29 and New Year's Eve, at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.

Following those dates, the musical will continue on Friday and Saturday night through January with 8:30 p.m. performances only.

Upcoming musicals schedules are "Star Spangled Girl" to be directed by Ray Jones and "Bells Are Ringing" to be directed by Nedra Potter.

Tickets may be purchased at the door. For further information contact The GreenBriar Theatre or Mr. or Mrs. John F. Green, 8271 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan, Utah.
