Future of Lehi cultural arts center hangs on one family's generosity

Deseret News, 29 July 1998, page B3

Article Summary:

After a proposal to build a $17 million recreation center, with a 1,000-seat theater, failed in November, the Lehi Arts Council made tentative plans to build an $11 million cultural arts center using a multimillion-dollar gift from a wealthy Salt Lake family.  A 1,800-seat, multi-balcony theater, located halfway between Provo and Salt Lake City, would be ideal for traveling Broadway shows and the Utah Regional Ballet.  The five-story complex would also include practice studios, an art gallery, theater-in-the-round, a 248-seat smaller theater, office space, and a senior citizen center for 10,000 people.  The facility would be built on city-own property at 200 North, directly north of the Hutchings Museum. Currently on the side are a soccer field, an old tennis court, basketball courts, and a parking lot.

The Lehi Arts Council is a non-profit corporation, separate from Lehi city.
