Megaplex coming to West Valley City's Valley Fair Mall

The Larry H. Miller Group announced at Valley Fair Mall's annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony the construction of a Megaplex theater on the site of the vacant Mervyn's department store.  Construction will begin after the holidays with the demolition of the Mervyns building.  The Megaplex theater is part of a $40-million expansion and remodeling of Valley Fair Mall, which will have 120 tenants in more than a million square feet.

Blake Andersen, senior vice president of Megaplex Theatres, said, “Our studies show they’re ready for a Megaplex out there. Our goal is to be open for the final movie of the ‘Twilight’ saga.”

The Cinemark Valley Fair 9 has “a few years left on its lease” and will remain.  Mall general manager Jonny Arbuckle predicts traffic brought to the mall by the bigger theater will benefit Valley Fair 9.  “We’re confident they’ll be able to co-exist,” Arbuckle said.

• 112,000 square feet
• 2,700 seats
• Digital projection
• an IMAX theater
• D-BOX motion seating in one auditorium
• a full-service food court
• Coke Freestyle soda machines
• a “Director’s Suite” reception hall

Restaurants will include Snappy’s Burgers, Fries & Shakes; Mayan Express Mexican Food; Main Street Deli Salads, Sandwiches & Wraps; Bon Bon Gelato and Ice Cream; and Snack Zone Popcorn and Movie Treats.
