Just how important is it to be Earnest?

The old classic by Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest, is made more hilarious than ever!  The production will come to the Little Brown Theatre, 248 South Main in Springville, from March 2-­-12, Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays at 7:30 p.m., tickets $10.  There will be one Thursday performance on March 8.

The old story of deception is about Jack Worthing's best girl Gwendolyn, who falls in love with him for his supposed name of Ernest.  It builds into a frenzy as the romance intensifies.  When Gwendolyn's mother, Lady Bracknell forbids the engagement, the plot thickens.  When Jack's best friend Algernon reveals his own version of deception known as his "Bunbury," the play erupts into a comedy of errors!

A favorite ever since it was the last play produced by the author Oscar Wilde just before his death, it will have the audience in stitches.  Dana Anquoe, the excellent director, knows just how to get the timing so apt it will have you laughing from beginning to end.

Jack, played by Andrew Whittaker is a hoot, as is his best friend Algernon, played by Eric Ramaekers.  Alyssa Christensen plays a perfect Gwendolyn, and Jack's sweet ward Cecily is delightfully played by Lindsay Fairbanks.  M'liss Tolman and Sherri Webb play the daunting middle age matrons, while the funny backups are played by Jamie Gritton, Amanda Oliver and Ken Norris.

The Little Brown Theatre returned to action last fall with "The Assassin's New Friend" and "Christmas Carol."  Sara and Brent Harvey, Bill Brown and the theatre board have prepared a season of delightful productions, including "On Golden Pond," "Beauty and the Prince" "Midsummer Night's Dream," "The Diary of Anne Frank," A Halloween comedy, "Let's Murder Marsha," and "Christmas Carol."
