PVP adds theater to third floor

The scaffolding outside means there's something new inside and in this case, it's a theater.
Promised Valley Playhouse, 132 S. State, the Mormon church-owned theater, is expanding its present facility to include more rehearsal rooms, larger offices, more storage area, and a small theater, all to be housed on the second and third floors of the State Street building.
The theater has been in operation for eight years, serving as a community theater and offering plays to the public from its 930-seat house that contains a proscenium.
Pat Davis, artisitc director for PVP, said that the playhouse has been interested for some time in having a small area where new plays and children's theater could be produced.
"Our new theater will be on the third floor, overlooking State Street," said Mrs. Davis. "It will open in March or April and will seat between 120 and 150 people."
Ralph Rodgers, managing director of the playhouse said the new theater will be an "adaptable, versatile space that will allow us to present plays that wouldn't be suitable on the proscenium."
The philosophy of presenting productions for the entire family will remain the same for the new theater.
"Though PVP is owned by the Mormon church we do want to emphasize the fact that we are a community theater open to everyone," said Mrs. Davis.
The expansion will include dance rehearsal rooms with high ceilings and larger storage areas.
"For some time now we've been renting out our sets and costumes for a minimal charge to schools and churches," said Mrs. Davis. "This expansion will enable us to store more of our costumes and serve the community better with our rental program."
The exterior of the building is being sandblasted.
