Larry Miller buys lease of Thanksgiving Point theater

Daily Herald, 11 January 2005, page A1

Article Summary:

On Monday Megaplex Theatres, owned by Larry H. Miller, acquired the lease agreement for the Thanksgiving Point Stadium 8. The 1,400-seat, 27,000-square-foot theater complex was renamed Megaplex 8 at Thanksgiving Point.

Megaplex Theatres hopes to increase its market share in the area by improving customer service. Improvements being made include retraining the theater's 25 employees, cleaning the seats and carpets, and addressing problems with projection and sound systems in some of the auditoriums.

Megaplex Theatres was interested in Thanksgiving Point because the resort is a destination area and because of rapid growth in Lehi, Highland and Eagle Mountain.

The Thanksgiving Point Stadium 8 was formerly leased by LCA Enterprises LLC, which still owns the Water Gardens Cinema 6 in Pleasant Grove. LCA filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July to keep its lease agreement with Thanksgiving Point Development Co. from being terminated after LCA defaulted on rent payments.
