Carmike Cinemas opened the Ritz Cinemas and Hollywood Connection Family Entertainment Center on 20 November 1998. The 165,000-square-foot complex was part of an “entertainment mecca” which included the Hale Centre Theatre and the West Valley City E Center (now the Maverick Center.) In addition to 15 movie screens, the Hollywood Connection included a carousel, roller coaster, bumper cars, miniature golf, skating, arcade, restaurant, ice cream parlor, and laser tag. Carmike's goal was to have enough entertainment under one roof so families wouldn't have to go around town.
