The Carmike 12 was the last new theater complex to be built in the Salt Lake area before the start of the stadium-seating building craze which caused three local theater chains to enter bankruptcy.  The theater was later remodeled with stadium seating to help it compete against the Megaplex 17 at Jordan Commons and the Carmike 24 at Jordan Landing.  The theater originally had six THX-certified auditoriums, but currently only theaters 6 and 7 are certified.  All auditioriums are equipped with either DTS or Dolby Digital.  The Carmike 12 has the same floorplan as the Carmike Wynnsong Cinemas in Provo.

Carmike Cinemas closed the theater without warning in May 2015.  A moviegoer commented on theater's Facebook page that she bought a popcorn bucket on Friday, May 15, then another patron went to the theater on Monday, May 18, and found it closed.  Replies from Carmike Cinemas said that the building had been purchased by AMC Theatres and that popcorn buckets and gift cards could be used at Carmike's Wynnsong Cinemas in Provo.[1]

AMC Theatres reopened the theater on 12 June 2015, with ticket prices of $6.40 for adults and $4.26 for children and matinees.
