Legacy Theatre
Salt Lake City, Utah

The 500-seat Legacy Theatre was built in the former Grand Ballroom of the Hotel Utah as the building was converted into the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.  The theater opened on 3 July 1993, presenting the Church-produced film “Legacy” in 70mm six-channel Dolby Stereo on a 63-foot-wide screen.  The Legacy Theatre was the last theater in the Salt Lake area to present traditional “five perf” 70mm films.  The first digital projector in Utah was installed at the Legacy Theatre for “Joseph Smith, The Prophet of the Restoration,” which opened on 17 December 2005.

In the north foyer of the Trolley Corners Theater 1 was a large mural of Star Wars painted by Don Christensen.  Stairs and platforms gave access to four doors leading to one side of the auditorium.  A similar foyer on the south side of the theater featured a mural from the Sound of Music.  Someone managed to remove the Star Wars mural before the theater was gutted.

Trolley Corners Theater 1 featured a mural from the original Star Wars movie. The mural shows Luke Skywalker holding a light saber over his head. Princess Leia kneels beside him holding a blaster. In the background is the mask of Darth Vader and a wave of X-Wing fighters attacking the Death Star. C-3PO and R2D2 appear in the right corner of the mural, near the signature of its painter, Don Christensen.  Trolley Corners, Salt Lake City, Utah
