Rex Theatre
Ogden, Utah

Stanley B. Steck was the principal owner of the Rex Theatre, which was earlier known as the Cherry Theatre.  Since it was located near another of his theaters, the Lyceum, Steck closed the Rex during the summer months, reopening in the fall when demand increased.   Because of the seasonal closures, the Rex became the nucleus of the Little Theatre community theater movements in 1919 and again in 1931.   The Rex became the Cozy Theatre after another of Steck's theaters closed.   In 1931 it became known as the Weber Theatre or Weber Little Theatre.

The New Owners of the Movie Theatre in Huntington Are Well on Their Way to Creating a Shining Star

By Patsy Stoddard, Editor
Emery County Progress, 25 June 2002

Article Summary:
The Star Theatre on Main Street in Huntington was built between 1944 and 1946 and has been in continuos operation since.

Percy and Janice Mounteer bought the Star Theatre on 15 March 2002 and began renovations.  They replaced the carpet in the lobby and auditorium, installed a new sign and lights on the marquee, replaced the screen, painted the outside of the building and furniture within, and bought a new popcorn popper.  The restrooms now have hot water for the first time.  The coal furnace was replaced with a gas one.  "The coal heat was pretty dirty and it's taken a while to clean everything up."

The theater has a cry room available for mothers with small children.

In addition to strong Huntington support, the Star Theatre is frequented by families from Price and some tourists passing through the area.

"It's like a hobby and it's been a lot of fun. We're excited to be here. We enjoy seeing the kids enjoy it. Grandparents have been bringing their grandchildren to the show and it's fun to see. It is a labor of love for the community," said Janice Mounteer.
