New Shakespeare Theatre
Cedar City, Utah

On 16 February 2012, the Utah Shakespeare Festival announced plans to build a $26.5 million Shakespeare theater on 200 West, between Center Street and College Avenue.  The new 900-seat theater will feature amenities missing from the current Adams Memorial Shakespearean Theatre, such as public restrooms and a backstage area.  A retractable roof will expand the season and allow for possible year-round usage.  The playhouse will allow for additional performances, which will draw an additional 30,000 patrons to Cedar City and increase the economic impact of the Festival by an estimated $8 million annually.

Article Summary:
The Star Theatre on Main Street in Huntington was built between 1944 and 1946 and has been in continuos operation since.

Percy and Janice Mounteer bought the Star Theatre on 15 March 2002 and began renovations.  They replaced the carpet in the lobby and auditorium, installed a new sign and lights on the marquee, replaced the screen, painted the outside of the building and furniture within, and bought a new popcorn popper.  The restrooms now have hot water for the first time.  The coal furnace was replaced with a gas one.  "The coal heat was pretty dirty and it's taken a while to clean everything up."

The theater has a cry room available for mothers with small children.

In addition to strong Huntington support, the Star Theatre is frequented by families from Price and some tourists passing through the area.

"It's like a hobby and it's been a lot of fun. We're excited to be here. We enjoy seeing the kids enjoy it. Grandparents have been bringing their grandchildren to the show and it's fun to see. It is a labor of love for the community," said Janice Mounteer.
