Proscenium
Sandy, Utah

Scott McQuarrie, a Utah County developer, approached Sandy City in 2006 about building a 2,400-seat Broadway theater southwest of City Hall.  The development was named “The Proscenium”, after the Greek innovation to better frame theater performances.  The announcement created a rivalry between Sandy and Salt Lake City, which had also had plans for a Broadway theater.  Funding for the Proscenium dried up after the credit market tumbled in late 2008.

The Old Barn Community Theatre was founded in 1998 by “a group of interested members of the community” who had a dream of opening “a theatre where families and friends could share wonderful entertainment in a wholesome and friendly environment.” The theater's mission is to provide “a volunteer based forum for citizens in the surrounding area to participate in creating and producing wholesome, high-quality entertainment through theatrical productions.”[1]
