Streamlined Structure Is Ultra-Modern

Deseret News, 23 December 1937

When doors open tomorrow at noon at the Centre Theater, Salt Lake show-goers will find a streamlined new showhouse embodying the last word in modern theater beauty. With its gleaming ninety-foot tower of entertainment, it will become a new Salt Lake landmark, a "show" center in every sense of the word.

The Centre is the first large theater to be built here in more than a decade. The modern mood predominates throughout, beginning with the large circular marquee, brilliantly and effectively lighted in neon. There is a wide one hundred and sixteen foot lobby, luxuriously decorated with mirrors and featuring the newest "cove" lighting. The lobby is open to public as a meeting place for planned shopping tours.

Seat Highly Comfortable

Inside the spacious auditorium, the newest and most comfortable type of theater seat has been installed. The seats are arranged with plenty of space for the knees. The construction of the new theater also permits another advantage. The house is so designed that a person may sit in the first row of the theater and still be 20 feet away from the screen. This placement of the screen permits a normal view of the picture from any angle.

RCA High Fidelity sound has been installed in the new theater. This equipment marks a great advance in the science of sound production. Its new "Magic Voice of the Screen" brings out tones, both instrumental and vocal that have not yet been captured on the screen.

An air conditioning unit that permits regulated temperatures at all seasons is another feature of the new showhouse. Earphones have been installed for the convenience of the hard-of-hearing.

Special Parking Feature

A special feature of the Center Theater's service will be the free parking arrangement with Auerbach's parking lot, entered on Broadway between State and Second East.

Manager Charles M. Pincus announces a brilliant line-up of pictures for the new showhouse, beginning with the comedy romance "True Confession," staring Carole Lombard, Fred Mac-Murray and John Barrymore, the Center will follow with the epic drama of the winning of the West - "Wells Fargo." The stage comedy "Tovarich," for which a top price was paid, will be the third big attraction. Claudette Colbers and Charles Boyer will be starred. "The Hurricane," thrilling story of the South Seas by the authors of "Mutiny On The Bounty," will follow - with Dorothy Lamour and Jon Hall in the featured roles.
