Megaplex Theatres Installs First 3D Projectors in Ogden and Salt Lake City

Newest 3D Technology - Opening with Journey to the Center of the Earth Friday, July 11th

Press Release
Megaplex Theatres, 08 July 2008
SALT LAKE CITY, UT (July 8, 2008) —Megaplex Theatres, part of the entertainment division of the Larry H. Miller Group, Inc., will launch Dolby 3D projection at its Salt Lake City Gateway and Ogden Junction locations Friday with the family-oriented feature film Journey to the Center of the Earth. They will be the first auditoriums in their respective areas to host feature films presented in digital 3D.

The Dolby 3D audience can expect an intense, headache-free experience with the most advanced technology in the industry. Essentially, the digital system takes advantage of the way the viewer’s eye interprets color and simplifies the process for the brain. Swapping glass for plastic and digital media for film, Dolby corrects the issue with image polarization that historically made 3D an eyesore - literally.

Megaplex 20 at The District in South Jordan, Utah was one of the first facilities in the country to test the new Dolby 3D technology which was expected to create the most immersive experience possible for movie viewers. One child exiting Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas at The District’s premiere of the equipment was overheard asking his guardian, “Was that real?” Mission accomplished.

Patrons of 3D films at Megaplex Theatres will get this entirely new and exhilarating experience for only $1.50 more than normal ticket price.

Dolby 3D is more environmentally friendly than traditional 3D with lightweight glasses that are sanitized in between uses rather than the disposable kind that ends up clogging landfills with useless plastic.

Feature films in the works to be presented in Dolby 3D Digital include Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Shrek Goes Fourth, James Cameron’s Avatar, Michael Bay’s Transformers 2, and Star Wars. Disney has also announced its intention to produce future films in 3D beginning fall of this year with Bolt.

Alternative content available through Dolby 3D Digital includes live special events, sporting events, operas and more distributed via satellite.
