New Family Drive-In Opens in Murray

The Olympus Drive-In, 5600 - 9th East, Murray, a $500,000 motion picture theater owned by Fox Inter-Mountain Theatres, a division of the National General Corp., will open Wednesday with Walt Disney's classic "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."
The theater is the largest drive-in in the intermountain area, according to Ted Kirkmeyer of Fox Inter-Mountain Theatres.
The new drive-in, which will replace the Oak Hills Drive-In, formerly operated by the chain, will feature a screen that measures 50 feet by 100 feet and accommodations for 1,056 cars.
Culminating five years of negotiations and construction, the drive-in's opening will be attended by Eugene V. Klien, president, and Willaim H. Thedford and Dan A. Polier, vie presidents, National General Corp.
Ron Harman, Salt Lake native who formerly operated the Oak Hills Drive-In and a Durango, Colo. theater, has been named as manager of the Olympus Drive-In. His staff will include approximately 30 employees.
The theater will show family-type motion pictures. Universal's "The Reluctant Astronaut" and United Artists' "The Way West" are scheduled to follow "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."
The theater will be a year around operation. It is equipped with a play ground to provide entertainment for youngsters and a modern snack bar.
The theatre has been designed for easy entry from busy streets. Cars will drive into an entrance area off the street and then enter the theatre's parking area through four traffic lanes.
Theatre officials said a new ramping system for parked cars will provide maximum comfort and view of the screen.
