Hi-volume theaters

Herald Journal, 26 October 1999

Article Summary:

Utah State University instructor Ken Curtis took his class of graduate audiology students to the Cinefour Theatres and Movies 5 to measure sound levels experienced members of the audience sitting near the middle of the auditorium.

During a tour of the projection booth, Cinefour assistant manager Julie Ewing said that the Cinefour wasn't designed for the extra insulation required for THX certification.  She also explained the differences between Dolby Stereo, Dolby Digital, and DTS, but the article doesn't mention if the Cinefour was equipped for any of those formats.  The theater does have radio receiver headphones with volume controls to assist the hearing impaired.
