Movies 5 2450 North Main Street Logan, Utah 84341 (1997 - 2017) |
Realtor Jack Nixon said Westates Theatres approached him about building a new venue. “I said, ‘Sure, I’ll build a movie theater, but I don’t know anything about the theater business. I have a dynamite piece of property that would work well for that, so we will do that.’”[1]
When Movies 5 opened in 1997, it was intended to be part of a commercial complex. Instead Westates found itself alone, with traffic congestion caused by unsatisfactory access to the unfinished development.[2]
Movies 5 closed after Megaplex Theatres did not renew the lease in June 2017. Neither the owner, Realtor Jack Nixon, nor the theater chain discussed options for renewing the lease. Instead, Nixon is developing plans for a possible business park, with the former theater building "retrofitted for another use." With the city exending 200 East to 3100 North, Nixon described the property as "a dynamite location." He said, "We think we can utilize the property better than we did with the movie theater."[3]
