Westates' business in motion

Movie theater chain plans new 10-screen complex

Spectrum, 16 January 2004

Article Summary:

Westates Theatres will build the Pineview Stadium 10 on 5 acres of a planned 13-acre shopping center on the southwest corner of 2450 East and Red Cliffs Drive.  The 30,000 square-foot theater complex will feature double aisles, stadium seating, and all-digital sound, with auditoriums ranging in size from 150 to 400 seats.  The complex will have an expanded lobby and extra large concession stand.

The theater will be the largest in Southern Utah and also the largest in the Westates Theatre chain.  Construction will begin in mid-February and the theater is scheduled to open 19 November 2004.  T. J. Rudman, vice president of Westates Theatres, estimates the theater will cost $4 million to build, excluding the price of the land, and another $1 million to equip.  The development will also include retaurants, a furniture store, excersice gym, and other retail shops.

Westates selected the location for the Pineview Stadium 10 because the company wanted to build in an area that was growing and it made sense to build another major theater on the east end of the city.  The decision to open another movie theater also follows an increase in demand.  The Westates Stadium 8 often has ticket lines that stretch into the parking lot.  The Red Cliff Cinema, located near the Pineview Stadium 10 and also operated by Westates, will remain open.
