Red Cliffs Cinemas 385 North Mall Drive St. George, Utah 84770 (435) 627-0991 (Before 1996 - ?) |
The four-screen Red Cliffs Cinema opened about 1996[1] and is located in a building behind the Red Cliffs Mall.
While building the nearby Pineview Stadium Cinemas in 2004, Westates Theatres considered renaming the Red Cliffs Cinemas to St. George Art House and showing limited releases and independent films.[2]
The Salt Lake Film Society took over management of the Red Cliffs Cinemas with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on 8 February 2008.[3] The Film Society began showing independent and “art” films at the Tower Theatre in 2001 and later expanded to the Broadway Centre Cinemas in 2002.
Paul Liacopoulos, a founding SLFS board member, said, “The demographics of Southern Utah coincides with the renaissance of film with the popularity of Sundance and indie films. We decided to take a leap of faith in St. George. We believe in this. It just makes sense to expand . . . Film has an educational value to explore so many issues. Film is one of the last true accessible forms of art for regular people like you and me. That is why we love film. That is why we expanded to include Southern Utah.”[3]
The concessions at the Red Cliffs Cinema will offer international chocolates and interesting candies. Xetava Gardens from Kayenta will run a coffee bar that will serve high quality coffee drinks, including gourmet drip coffee, smoothies, specialty teas, and hot chocolate.[3]
