Century 21 Guestbook
Records 1 to 1 of 1
Terry Thomas, San Diego CA, 11 May 2006
I was stunned to find out that the Century Theatres were demolished. I managed Century 21, 22 and 23 in the early 80’s along with the Century 24 and 25.
At the time we were showing movies like, An Officer and a Gentleman, Dead Men don’t Wear Plaid, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Dark Crystal among others.
We were able to have a new snack bar built which really created a sense of pride in what we were able to accomplish and raising our income for a theater, which was located far outside the California mainstream.
The theatre lobby was beautiful with marble floors and 3 big chandeliers above whose light was reflected and created a special show in itself.
We were also able to have the front of the theatre, outside, changed to add lit posters and the entire outside painted giving the entire place a friendlier atmosphere.
The lights on the dome hadn’t been on for years before I was there so I replaced many lights, (seemed like hundreds) and let the dooms shine on weekends.
I always felt that the 2 large structures were a landmark in Salt Lake City and wonder if they have been missed at all. I haven’t been back there since the mid 90’s and maybe someday I’ll be able to go back and see the new and remember all the good times of the old.
